Speaking with your child about the Paris attacks

The appalling attacks that occurred Friday in Paris leave all of us shaken and heartbroken.  As we mourn for the victims and their families, along with the citizens of France, we also search for how best to help our children process the tragedy and the media blitz that follows.  I’ve found guidance from several source and have tried to summarize the takeaways most meaningful to me.   Continue reading

Assets Shines at the Schools of the Future Conference

You may be wondering why we didn’t have school this past Tuesday.  Why on earth did we make you find child care on a Tuesday?!?!  Good question.  We closed so that all faculty members could attend the first day of the 2015 Schools of the Future (SOTF) conference, the largest education conference in the state. We have been fortunate to be able to send all faculty members to this conference for several years in a row now. We do this out of a commitment to continue our own adult learning so that we can constantly learn about new educational practices and collaborate with our peers in other public, private and charter schools.    Continue reading

Parenting in the Digital Age

Parenting is hard work. And raising children in our modern digital world presents new challenges to a job that already seemed sufficiently difficult enough. That’s why last Thursday our Assets Parent ‘Ohana (APO) held their first education forum of the year on this very topic, “Parenting Your Children in the Digital Age,” featuring retired Honolulu police officer Mr. Chris Duque and our very own Mr. Jon Pennington.    Continue reading

Starting the Year with Hopes and Dreams

Our first two full weeks of school have been exciting ones. We’ve even had two rainy day dismissals, which matches our total for all of last year! It was marked extra special though by Week 2 being the kickoff of enrichment classes. Continue reading
